Write for us
We welcome pitches about the craft of comedy writing and performance: clear ideas grounded in a specific form, technique or creative choice. A useful proposal tells us what the reader will understand by the end, without relying on inflated claims about what makes everyone laugh.
What makes a good pitch
Send a short description of the idea, its intended reader and the central question or example that will carry it. Tell us whether you are proposing an explanation, comparison, historical piece, myth-check or occasion-based guide. A focused subject is more useful than a broad promise to cover comedy.
The work we welcome
We consider original, carefully argued writing on jokes, characters, scenes, comic forms and performance choices. Proposals should make their scope clear, distinguish observation from opinion and avoid presenting personal taste as a universal rule. Please mention any relevant interest or relationship that readers should know about.
How to send a proposal
Send pitches through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, a short outline and a little about your approach. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication; we will consider whether it fits the subject and voice of Active Comedy Review.
A laugh has a shape
We pay attention to the small decisions behind comic work: what it sets up, what it withholds and when it changes direction.
